Asus ROG GL552 Review

Asus ROG GL552 Design

The new ROG model entrant GL552 comes with a slight difference but nothing as sleek as its rivals. It has a slick aluminum lid that has been attributed to the F-22 fighter plane. It appears a little bigger than most gaming machines. However, its 5.6 pounds weight makes it relatively lighter than most rival systems.

There is a silver patterning inside bringing some flair to the black metal deck; this Asus ROG laptop is backed up by the red backlighting.

The red-and-black color scheme is reinforced by the detailing that is on the left vent. It could get hot thus the colors will keep your hands and legs off that place. It has the rubber feet to leave streaks if dragged on the table.

Main Features

This Asus ROG laptop comes with a keyboard that brings out some red light. The W, A, S, and D keys have some red highlights along the bottom. The plastic keys feel snappy when typing on it. There is a 10-key Numpad to the right of the keyboard with the keys on the Numpad being shrunk by half size.

Once you are familiar with the keyboard, you can hit to an average 83 words a minute. The touchpad is not as lit as the keyboard, but the 4.1 by 2.75-inch touchpad has high-level responsiveness. It can register finger swipes and keeps gestures for the next time.

The display is nothing short of a pleasant Full HD resolution. Asus ROG GL552 comes with a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 screen display. It has top-tier brightness and spot-on colors.

This machine will change your gaming experience. The non-touchscreen has a matte coating. It delivers quality resolution. This machine has a better color accuracy than most of its rivals in the market.

Extra Advanced Features

This Asus ROG laptop model can remain cool for long, especially on ordinary tasks like streaming an FHD video. However, when gaming the vent on the left side of the system can go up to 125 degrees.

It is advisable to avoid this part while gaming. The ports and webcam features are well in place. The connectivity to this machine is a mix of the past and the future.

The archaic dual-layer DVD tray comes alongside a modern 3.1 USB port with a Type-C connector.

The machine has on 2.0 and two 3.0 USB ports, Ethernet, HDMI, and SD card slot. There are microphone and headphone jacks. The webcam has low resolution.

Gaming is made fun thanks to the NVIDIA 960M GPU with a 2GB VRAM. This has made this Asus ROG laptop a real competition in the market for many systems. It gives a cool 59 FPS on low strings of 1920 x 1080.

Games that are not as demanding can achieve up to 70 and 80 FPS on high settings, but GTA5 and other graphics-demanding games may require lower settings for 60 FPS.

Performance

Asus ROG GL552 features a powerful 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor. The machine has a 16GB RAM and cool 1TB HDD making it efficient and convenient like most gaming rival machines. It has beaten most rivals with its 7,200 RPM HDD. This makes moving files close to 3 times faster than in other competition machines.

According to the Geekbench, the performance of the ROG GL552 system scored a staggering 13,554 against the V15 Nitro’s 12,577 even with the latter having equal RAM and CPU capacities. Sorting 20,000 spreadsheet names and addresses took 3:44 for the ROG GL552, 3:46 for V15 Nitro and 3:58 for the Inspiron 15 700.

According to Laptop Mag, this Asus ROG laptop gave 4 hours and 43 minutes while at its full usage. This was a staggering 2 hours better than the Acer V15 Nitro. There a number of utility applications that are pre-installed. It comes with Windows 10 Home and other applications.
