Don’t you just hate the feeling when you see the new laptop you just paid a $1000 for on sale the next week for $800 or less?
Or to find that Dell or Lenovo released a new laptop with even better features just a couple of days later?
Whether you are buying a laptop, mobile, or a car, there is always a right time to buy.
In this article, we’ll tell you exactly when you can score the deal of your life and get a laptop that will last you for years, run all your games and programs while costing you much lesser.
Back to School Season
August and September are known as the back-to-school months as this is the time college and schools reopen after the mid-term break. This means students will be looking to purchase their laptops before the school season starts up again.
“We see this time period between September through November as being one of our strongest selling seasons,” said Jason Oxman, vice president at Laptop Mag. “It’s also a great opportunity to get some really good deals on laptops.”
These discounts usually start about a week before school reopens and continue the following month. But just to get a head start, some dealers start with special offers as early as July so keep an eye out.
The Back to School sales can last anywhere from two weeks to three months depending on how many laptop models they have to offer.
Though keep in mind that the discounts generally aren’t as big as on Black Friday since they can vary from $25 to $100 which means you get just 10%-15% off on a $500 laptop. So if you are now in a hurry can be even better off waiting until later in the autumn for the Black Friday sales.
Even Apple offers some good discounts in the refurbished store where you can get your hands on older (and sometimes not so old) Macbooks.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday
When I think of MEGA DISCOUNTS, a day that instantly pops into the head is Black Friday.
Celebrated on the Friday following Thanksgiving, it is one of the best days to purchase not just electronics but pretty much anything you want.
But how big can Black Friday be?
Well, in 2018, the MacBook 12-inch was available for about $1000 which is a significant price drop and an absolute steal considering its high-end specs, portable build, and durability.
Not just that, even laptops like Gigabyte Aero Slim and the gaming beast HP Omen saw a significant price drop during Black Friday 2018.
So if you need a new laptop and can wait till November, I can hardly think of a better time.
Just like Black Friday, even Cyber Monday is celebrated in November or early December i.e. on the Monday after Thanksgiving (so you have more reasons to look forward to thanksgiving than just the turkey). Black Friday marks the beginning of the holiday shopping seasons.
It is the equivalent of Black Friday with sales rising to a record $7.9 billion in 2018 alone, a significant increase since 2016 and 2017.
And it isn’t just a US thing, even countries like Canada, Australia, India, Japan, Germany, etc. have carried on the trend. That means people around the globe can now save thousands of dollars on new purchases.
Once again, it comes down to whether you have the patience to wait or not because if you do, trust me, you are in for a treat whether you need a gaming laptop for one for other needs. Take a look at our Black Friday page for the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
Amazon Prime Day
Amazon has its own version of Black Friday called “Prime Day,” where shoppers can take advantage of deep discounts on select items from thousands of third-party sellers.
The event typically runs for about three days in July /August each year. It started back in 2015 when Amazon offered free shipping on all orders over $35.
If you are an Amazon Prime member, Prime Day is one of the most popular opportunities to buy electronics, and if you act quickly, you can find excellent deals. The tricky part is knowing exactly when Prime Day takes place. Amazon usually holds the event in early July, but in 2020 it was pushed all the way back to October. So it can be hard to plan your purchase.
Amazon Prime Day will be announced a few weeks before the actual date so keep an eye open.
Spring Clearout Sales
During spring as the weather starts heating up, it’s a good idea to watch out for laptop deals. This usually happens around late February through April. At this time a lot of the laptop brands are releasing new models to the merchants so they are clearing out older (last year) generations of the laptops.
Shopping at this time can save you some serious money but it often comes with the trade-off of getting an older model. But if you are fine with not getting the absolute latest bells and whistles on your laptop this is a great opportunity to get a deal.
Be sure to check popular retailers like Amazon, BH as so on, as well as the laptop brands site for deals.
April is usually the month where dealers are looking to clear out old stock and thus offer it at extremely cheap prices. Dell and Lenovo as some of the brands that often offer great discounts.
Conclusion On How To Find Great Laptop Deals
A quick word of caution. Don’t be fooled by the shiny price reductions during the sales. A big price cut doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good deal.
We recommend you find a laptop model or two that you are interested in and start following the price development and price history of those. Using a price-history tool is a great way to do that.
There have been instances where less reputable retailers increase the prices before the sale to be able to offer higher discounts.
