Both the Razer Blade 15 and the Dell XPS 15 created quite the wave upon the respective releases and for good reason. Both laptops come with powerful specs, a good design, and some features that can make any tech geek weak in the knees.

But it is this array of features that also makes choosing between the two laptops so difficult for buyers. Thankfully, not anymore. Here’s a detailed comparison between the Razer Blade 15 and Dell XPS 15 to help you make a more informed buying decision.

Razer Blade 15 VS Dell XPS 15: A Detailed Comparison

Which is the better Gaming Laptop?

This is a question we get asked very often so here’s a straightforward answer.

If you are looking for a gaming laptop and have the big bucks to spend, the Razer Blade 15 is the clear winner. One of the biggest reasons why the Razer Blade trumps the XPS 15 as a gaming laptop is because of its high-end graphics card.

While the XPS 15 features the decent NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 with a 4GB dedicated RAM, the Razer Blade 15 is an absolute beast with its NVIDIA RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics card that has a dedicated RAM of a whopping 8GB.

In simpler words, while the XPS 15 can support the latest graphics-intensive gaming titles at lower graphics settings with the Razer Blade, you get eye-popping graphics and speed at the highest of settings. The better graphics card also makes it more suited for live streaming.

Furthermore, the Razer blade display has a 240GHz refresh rate. That means things like ghosting and blurring will be a thing of the past.

And with online multiplayer games creating all the buzz, this feature is more important than ever as it gives you edge over the others as most other gaming screens come with 144GHz or a lesser refresh rate.

Even the design and cooling of the Razer Blade 15 are tailored for gamers compared to that of the XPS 15. We’ll discuss more in detail about that below so stay tuned.

Display

Dell XPS 15

When it comes to the display quality, there is hardly any laptop that can compete with the Dell XPS 15. Yup, the XPS 15 comes with a 4k resolution and a 100% Adobe RGB color range thus giving you color and contrast that make the movies and pictures life-like.

Dell XPS 15 laptop 15.6', 4K UHD InfinityEdge Touch, 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5, 1TB SSD storage, 16GB RAM, XPS7590-7565SLV-PUS

It has a brightness of around 500nits which means you can view the screen just as well even in bright sunlight while the wide-angle viewing means you and your partner can share the same screen without having to adjust it constantly.

But the biggest difference between the XPS 15 and other laptops in the bezel size. Dell XPS has some of the smallest bezels ever seen on a laptop.

Dell calls it the NanoEdge Technology and it delivers a screen to body ratio of an astonishing 91% with a mere 6.04mm bezel on the sides and a 7.08mm bezel on the top, in turn, giving you maximum viewing area.

These display specs make it one of the best laptops for graphics designers, programmers, and video editors as you no longer will be bogged down by jagged lines or blurriness.

Razer Blade 15

Well, the Razer Blade also offers you a variant with a 4k resolution which is also a touchscreen but that comes with a 60GHz refresh rate. For gaming purposes, I would recommend going with a Full-HD display with a 144GHz or a better 240GHz refresh rate.

Razer Blade 15 Gaming Laptop 2019: Intel Core i7-9750H 6 Core, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q, 15.6' FHD 1080p 240Hz, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, CNC Aluminum, Chroma RGB Lighting, Thunderbolt 3

This will eliminate the nagging blurring the ghosting ensuring you enjoy lag-free gaming (you are going to be enjoying a lot more chicken dinners with this baby).

While the XPS 15 features an almost zero-bezel display, the Razer Blade 15 does a good job of keeping bezel to a minimum as well. It has 4.9mm bezels thus giving you an 85% body to screen ratio.

Furthermore, it delivers 96% of sRGB, 66% of NTSC, and 71% of AdobeRGB which is good for a gaming laptop. Yup, it is no match for the 100% Adobe RGB the 4k Touch variant can deliver but if you are a true gamer, you won’t regret this much.

The brightness of the display is slightly lesser than the XPS 15 at 330nits but it does provide excellent wide-angle viewing, especially helpful when playing 2-player games or watching a walkthrough, etc.

Performance

Both laptops come with a 6 core, 9th Gen i7-9750H processor that clocks at 4.5GHz along with a 16GB RAM. Though if needed, you can upgrade the RAM on both the laptops to about 32GB. These alone tell you about the powerhouse both laptops are.

The major difference lies in the storage and GPU unit. The Dell XPS 15 comes with a 1TB NVMe SSD. That not only means that you get tons of storage space but also ensures your programs open and the laptop boots in mere seconds.

And in case you didn’t know, apart from being faster than HDDs, SSDs are also more durable as they have lesser moving parts thus ensuring your new laptop won’t need repairs for years to come.

Dell XPS 15 laptop 15.6", 4K UHD InfinityEdge Touch, 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5, 1TB SSD storage, 16GB RAM, XPS7590-7565SLV-PUS
  • 15.6" 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) InfinityEdge anti-reflective touch IPS 100% a do be RGB 500-nits display
  • 9th Generation Intel Core i7-9750h (12MB Cache, up to 4. 5 GHz, 6 Cores)
  • 16GB DDR4-2666MHz, 2x8G
  • 1TB PCIe SSD
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5

The Razer Blade 15 also comes with an NVMe SSD that provides similar benefits but it is has a 512GB SSD which is slightly lesser considering games these days are larger in size so you will either need to upgrade or get external storage.

But while Razer Blade may lose on the storage front, it hits the ball out of the park when it comes to the GPU unit. As I already mentioned above, it comes with a dedicated 8GB GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q unit compared to the dedicated 4GB GeForce GTX 1650 unit. Well, both sound great and to a large extent, they are.

While the Blade 15’s specs making it a gaming specialist, the XPS 15’s GPU unit is more suited for video editing, 3D animation, etc. as you will get faster rendering and other speed benefits. You can also use it for gaming but it won’t deliver the frame rates or clarity the Blade 15 can especially with the latest titles.

Cooling

Razer Blade 15

Being a gaming laptop the Blade 15, as expected, excels in the cooling department thanks to the special vapor chamber cooling. Part of this chamber cooling is 44 blade fans and multiple vents that produce minimal voice and help drive out the hot air with great efficiency.

There are also Graphite-based, server-grade thermal materials that work in tandem with Nanoparticle thermal blockers to keep hotspots to a minimum and control heat better. Lastly, there are also 68-fins heat exchangers that ensure efficient heat dissipation.

Dell XPS 15

The Dell XPS 15 also comes with multiple fans and vents though its cooling isn’t as efficient or advanced as the Razer Blade 15. This is one of the reasons it isn’t touted as a hard-core gaming laptop.

Running graphics-intensive games can result in the laptop heating up. But if you are only watching movies, editing video, rendering animations, etc. the laptop does hold its own ground and won’t cause any overheating issues.

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5

Portability

To be true both laptops weigh on the higher side but considering the powerful specs, their portability is actually commendable.

The Dell XPS 15 weighs around 5lbs with dimensions of 0.66″ (h), 14.06″ (L), and 9.7″ (W).

On the other hand, the Razer Blade 15 weighs around 4.5lbs while its dimensions are 0.70″ (h) x 9.25″(W) x 13.98″(L).

The difference is minimal but yes, Razer Blade comes out on top. Not many powerful gaming laptops can boast of such compactness which puts Razer Blade 15 right amongst the top laptops for 2020.

Razer Blade 15 VS Dell XPS 15: The Main Differences

Razer Blade 15 VS Dell XPS 15
With a powerful dedicated NVIDIA RTX GPU, better cooling system, and higher refresh rate, the Razer Blade 15 is an ideal laptop for professional gamers but the Dell XPS is no slouch. It costs lesser and yet is powerful, portable and has one of the best displays on a laptop. Decent for gaming but more suited for designing, editing, and entertainment purposes.
